Nancy Hanson's All Wrapped Up & Giveaway + Winners!

Last night we were grumpy. All four of us. We were all headed for a heap of cold coal on Christmas morning if things didn't change fast.

Lucky for us, Nancy Hanson had sent us her holiday cd All Wrapped Up and it had arrived only hours before in the mail. We turned it on, and it turned our whole night around.

We danced, and drummed and sang along. I tried to teach Ever how to clap (fail, too young) and The Chief ran the distance of our front room with his hands in the air like he was perpetually winning the marathon. The cd made us all so happy we listened to it twice in a row.

Nancy is a folksy singer/song writer--a performer we especially love here in Utah. Her voice is like honey, honestly, it's the voice every mother should have when they become the guardian of little human beings.All of her songs come with a wink and a smile, a refreshing mix of down-to-earth and heaven. Think Nanci Griffith and you've got your new best friend, Nancy Hanson.

On this album in particular she's collaborated with the ever-enjoyable Ryan Shupe and his right-hand man, Craig Miner. Try Far, Far Away on Judea's Plains or the upbeat spin on Away In a Manger. Or by the whole album and have yourself a happy Christmas. Coal free.

I can't do secular Christmas music this year. I don't know what is making me so picky but there I am. We have a collection of sacred Christmas music including John Rutter, Handel's Messiah and the Mary's Lullaby from Scott Wiley.

We also have David Tolk's Christmas, and the problem with that cd is my baby's addiction to it. We put it in her nursery to sing her to sleep this holiday season and now she wakes up as soon as the album is over.

It's gorgeous music.

Piano with some choral and instrumental arrangements of sweet Christmas music. I especially appreciate that it is not over-composed, no piece is too big and heavy. It's piano music for 2010, and it will bring a little peace to the intensity of this time of year. A new Christmas album for a new holiday season is always a good idea. Ever (and I) recommend this album. The bonus here is the cover of the album is a J. Kirk Richard's Mother and Child (Kirk and David are brother in laws, ample artistic genes in that family.)
