sponsor launcher

last month i when thought about highlighting
sponsors on this blog
i had no idea what an adventure i'd have.

three sponsors showed up:
ewillow
vintage pearl
and
little tots, big ideas.

and we had giveaways,
introductory posts,
amendment giveaways
daily bottom-of-post linkings
and
mind if i say it?
love.

pure sponsorship love.

i think the win/win of this sort of deal
should be extended
for new sponsors.

(plus we've got some cool new ideas
for this blog
which might just be
the kick you are waiting for
exclamation point!)

so, this is a call out for new sponsors
for dear cjane.
if you'd like to be apart of the
dear c jane mix
send us an email at our new inbox
dearcjane@gmail.com
for pricing
and sizing
and other general inquires.

otherwise stay tuned for tomorrow
when i answer the question
about homemade oreo cookies.

because we can never have enough
cake mix recipes
on this blog
now can we?

(betty crocker should totally be a sponsor.)

p.s. my very devoted love goes out
to dear cjane readers.
thank you.

nostalgic graphic tees

a lot of dear cjane questioners
want to know about silhouettes
--a favorite look of my sister stephanie--
so i thought i'd pass on this cute etsy shop
nostalgic graphic tees

which are fun t-shirts for kids
designed by graphic designer
elizabeth horton.

i am partial to this
fisherman t-shirt for boys
and extra happy to hear
that proceeds for these shirts
go to the
look good...feel better organization
a public service program
serving cancer patients.

feather ring by bari--FIXED LINK!

my best friend wendy and i
used to have this business where
we'd buy each other funky rings from
wherever we roamed.

like mexican opals from mazatlan
silver orbitals from vail
hippie suns from sweden
and carved-in-wood from jerusalem.

then we grew up and we
sorta stopped the tradition but
the other day my friend bari
sent me this feather ring
and i thought it was perfect for
my funky ring collection.

it is sassy, sister.

sassy and totally original
believe me because i have searched
this planet for rings of variety
and this is the first feather ring i've
encountered.

i emailed bari to ask
if she were mass producing
and the good news is that she isn't.

she just has twenty rings
(in three jewel-toned feathers)
that she'd be happy to sell
to those who are interested.

and to add sweetness to the deal
all feather rings are 10% off
(use the code C JANE 10% off)
and three dollars of your purchase will
go towards my favorite charity
the maricopa health foundation for burn and trauma.

but most of all,
you will a funky accessory to love
like i do (and perhaps
a new way to flip the bird?)

. . . that purse?

oh
you mean this
friendly purse
on the table?

that was sent to me by the thoughtful
people at petunia picklebottom
when we had charge of my sister's children
and a newborn
(suddenly).

these bags are made for mothers
--smart diaper bags--
with secret pockets and pouches
and made to last for decades.
i adore this bag
and i am constantly surprised
at how many things i can
stuff into it.

the style of my actual bag
is called a
touring tote.

there you are, my dear.

cold-eeze lozenges

on sunday i knew i was getting sick
itchy ears
sore throat
sniffles
you know the routine

so i spent the entire day in bed
and on monday i felt so much better
but on tuesday i pushed myself a little too far
and on wednesday i was slammed with a horrid flu
which kept me in bed today (thursday)
with aches, pains, chills, and headaches.

possibly the worst i have felt in a decade.

but please don't cry for me
because my midwife warned me
to stock up on cold-eeze
(which at first i thought she was saying
"coldies" a cute term for some sweet lozenges)

cold-eeze are little drops
made with zinc and magic
i swear, because they have made all the difference
in my suffering.

in fact, i am using one as i write this post
it has helped with my sore throat
and coughing
and over all self-pity.

i bought them at walgreens
but i am pretty sure they are found in any
pharmacy (over-the-counter stuff).

i thought i'd write about cold-eeze
today just in case
you can catch my flu
via reading my blog

(sorry.)

. . . retro house stuff?

first off i need to explain:
i am not a furniture connoisseur
at all.
(mostly i go to ikea and pick out
whatever might work
or i pick up second hand
treasures.)

i hope one day to be more
educated about buying pieces,
until then
here are three questions
i was asked about our recent
feature on fresh nest.

1.) the end tables are hattens
from ikea.
they look fancy
i love putting different objects
in the bowl according to my whimsy.

(note: they are really lightweight).

2.) the blanket is also from ikea
the ofelia throw.

if i could buy one for everyone in the world
i would.

it is a happy piece of fabric
which looks pleasantly perched anywhere
and adds a lot of texture to a room.

one of my favorite purchases in recent memory
(and only $19.99!)

3.) the armchair
was a find from a model condo
after it had sold
(same place we found the
table we transformed with tile).

i keep thinking i will recover it
in cheery fabric.

i guess a room is never really finished
sigh . . .

persimmon & pink prints

a couple weeks ago
i heard the chief from his crib
in the nursery
herald the end of his nap
by declaring,
"uh oh"

which made me think:
uh oh.

and just like so many mother's before me
i opened that nursery door
with a touch of anxiety
and found my son
with his beloved
"i am a child of god" print
and a handful of brown diaper mess
fingerpainting
(if you follow).

the print was destroyed.

and because we love that print
and hope to have it in our family for generations
i went to persimmon & pink to order another.

and behold, i found new prints to love:

plus, from now until the end of the month
FREE SHIPPING!

this time i am going to
frame the print and
post it high on the nursery wall.

i learned my lesson this time around.

. . . betsy's bows to stay on her head?

my sister lucy's baby betsy
always has a bow in her hair
which consistanly matches her little outfit
(even if it is pajamas)
isn't that simply adorable?

we've been asked how lucy gets those bows to stick
and here is her answer:
k y jelly.

mmmm yep.

she puts a dab of jelly on the back of the bow
spreads it around,
blows on it briefly
sticks it on betsy's head
and blows on it again
until it sticks.

pretty simple right?

(please bless i never have to blog about k y jelly again.)

valentine week day four: homemade lip plumper

this tip is for the women like me
who love a natural lip plumper
(lip magic that stings the lips
and makes them feel plump and full).

last year i was doing research
on lip plumpers
i shopped,
i talked,
i tried
and yet, i couldn't find
a limp plumper
strong enough for the result i wanted.

i wanted to have sizzle lips.

so after my research failed me,
i decided to make my own
and finally i had just the product i desired.
it took some experimentation
but it was worth it.

this valentine's day might
be a good excuse to try it out
if you like lip gloss with a
definite kick.

i mixed a bit of nyc's cool mint lip gloss ($2.99)
(to combat the heat)
(but you can try it with just about any gloss)
with a touch of olive oil
and a pinch of cayenne pepper
and stirred.

i worked with the solution
until my lips were zingy
glossy, a little gloopy
plumpy
and
shall i say?

ready to be kissed.

(chup has never had ill effects--
the solution has never stung him.)

(try at your own risk!)

happy valentine's day to cupids and lover alike!

valentine week day three: crockpot cake

on our first valentine's day together
i tried a new recipe
--crockpot cake--
a fudgy chocolate cake
slowly cooked to desire.

as it baked in the kitchen of my condo
chup was down decorating my car
with all sorts of funny valentines.

(sometimes i miss dating.)

we had lunch and lounged around
then ate the cake.
it was so very good
thick, warm, and really chocolatey.

it's been a tradition ever since.

i've posted the recipe before
but never on this blog,
so here it goes:

1 package chocolate cake mix
1 container of sour cream (8 oz)
1 cup chocolate morsels
1 cup water
4 eggs
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 package instant chocolate pudding mix

spray crock pot with nonstick cooking spray.
mix cake mix, sour cream, chocolate morsels, water, egss, oil
and pudding mix in a bowl by hand.
pour into crock pot.
cover and cook on low 6-8 hours or high 3-4 hours.

i know some bake this cake more conventionally
but i like the smell of cake
in my kitchen for an afternoon
(by the time it is done cooking
my salivary glands are begging for taste.)
i also like how easy it is to bake
and how fun it is to scoop it out of the pot.

also:
this time i substituted chocolate chips
with chocolate truffles--
it just keeps getting better . . .

(as does the relationship.)

(wink.)

valentine week day two: dollar store dinnerware

a month or so ago
i was talking to two
fine ladies
azucar de la pines
and allison.

we were discussing
bowls and plates
(as fine ladies do)
and that is when allison
admitted,
"i get mine from the dollar store."

which freed me from social pressure
to keep my once-guarded secret,
"i buy mine from the dollar store too."

in fact, my favorite stuff--
glassware
plates
bowls
and flat bowls
all cost me a simple buck each.

if you are planning on
a home cooked meal
for your valentine
you might want to stop by
your local dollar store
and buy some new white plates
to serve it on.

it's the fanciest one dollar
you will ever spend.

tomorrow, what to serve on those new dollar store plates.
