. . . your cleaning playlist?

last week i wrote about house cleaning
which always includes listening to music
which endorses endorphins
which helps in the exercise.

a few readers wanted to know
what exactly was on that cleaning playlist.

it varies daily
and according to tasks
but here are some current favorites:

white sky by vampire weekend
we used to be friends by the dandy warhols
colors by april smith
i'm the man who loves you by wilco
kissing the lipless by the shins
that's not my name by the ting tings
just a song about ping pong by operator please
take me out by franz ferdinand
suffer for fashion by of montreal
jungle drum by emiliana torrini
get better by mates of state

and the song on repeat in retro house these days
empire state of mind part II by alicia keys

also, for a wind down
try bon iver
(i fell hard last year for these guys,
and remain a loyal fan)
if i could share one piece of internet joy
it would be this:

a shout out to passionista
and the jolly porter
who supply me regularly
with new tunes!

this post is brought to you by these awesome sponsors:

Oh I love Bon Iver! Not least because he looks a little like my dog. But in a totally adorable and I-mean-it-as-a-compliment way, I promise.

Oh, holy buckets!! I can't stop listening to Vampire Weekend's new album!! Just last night, to my husband I proclaimed, "White Sky is the best song ever!". You must add some Paul Simon Graceland to that playlist!!!! As my oldest daughter learned to play the intro to A-Punk on her guitar, she told me I may be a little old to be so into VW. To her I say, "Meh!". Have a lovely day!

Love Bon Iver. And because I feel like it would be cruel of me not to share my greatest find of '09....Missy Higgins. Oh my. "Sound of White" album would be my first suggestion, but DANG...it's all just amazingly good. And I'll step a year back to '08 in case anyone's been living under a rock and say that "A Fine Frenzy" must be on everyone's playlist for doing anything. Personally, they're all on my "Chillout" mix, which, invariably, I clean to.

Love that the woman at IKEA did that for you. There is trust and trustworthiness in the world!!

Ooohhhh--thanks for the playlist. I am so out of it when it comes to music. Seriously, I'm still stuck in 1989. I'll have to trey some of these out!

you should check out Regina Spektor if you haven't already.. I like to put on Pandora radio on my computer and just let it pick random songs for me. I've found lots of new good songs that way!

best cleaning music ever: 80s pop hits

a dj gave me a cd of his favorites at a party in college, and i have been cleaning my house to it ever since

in case anyone's keeping track, that's seven great years of boy george and frankie helping me keep my living quarters spic-and-span

Passion Pit. Seriously, check them out if you haven't. They have saved many an afternoon from cleaning pits to cleaning spirits.

dear cjane,
every time you talk about cleaning I get serious, nesting style urges to clean. do you think you could talk about cleaning a little more? my house would thank you. and so would my husband.
also - I too fell hard for bon iver last year. I love when someone introduces me to music that feels like coming home. have you discovered jaymay? here's one of my favorites:

thanks cjane. I'll go clean my house now.
-k.

Dare I interject a little country? If you can get past the country label, this has a great beat for scrubbing - the Mavericks, All you ever do is bring me down

I adore Bon Iver! If you haven't already, you may want to check out Brett Dennen (really any song will do, they are lovely) and Matt Costa's Sunshine. They make cleaning/working out/driving in traffic much, much better!

I grew up cleaning to the Carole King Tapestry album.

It's forever ingrained in my soul that that is cleaning music.

YES.
This is exactly what I was dreaming of (or 'of what I was dreaming', depending on your level of grammar snobbery).
I know most of this stuff, but there are a few on here that I will be checking out immediately.
This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me.
(Not really. But it's a good theme, and I'm stickin' to it.)

I bought my first (and so far only) Bon Iver record last summer at the Gallivan show - we moved shortly after the show and I've yet to unpack my record paper... which happens to need a new belt too. Someday I'll hear its beauty... someday :)

Mrs. Miller (seriously, ask Topher about her, you will NOT be disappointed. . .and I think you two may just be kindred spirits that LOVE to sing!)

Right now, I'm liking

The Perfect Scene by Mercy Mercedes
Fireflies by Owl City
I Like the Way You Move - The Bodyrockers
Electric Worry - Clutch

This one makes me cry everytime I hear it. Rather embarrassing when driving in the car. I think it has to do with my mom dying.
Lullabye for a Stormy Night - Vienna Teng

I adore Bon Iver! I bet you would like the Avett Brothers. Their album "I, and Love, and You" just came out and it's pretty magnificent. Give me cute boys harmonizing anyday...but especially cleaning day.

Oooh, I love the empire state of mind II. Alicia Keys has a gorgeous voice.

Wow! That video of Bon Iver is beautiful, it gave me some serious goose bumps! I would also recommend Fleet Foxes, as someone already did. So I guess I "second that"!

Also, Lady Antebellum has been inspiring my work sessions lately, also fun for housecleaning.

Thanks CJane!

Little known fact: one of the members of the shins is a (inactive) member of the church. I grew up with his family and his brother is in my ward now.

Oh I love the Dandy Warhols. Have you seen the movie about them called Dig? FASCINATING.
