possibly the most overwhelming part of blogging for me
is getting daily emails from people,
organizations,
churches
asking if i could blog about
service projects,
auctions,
families in need,
fundraising,
or relief work.
it hurts my heart because i know
i can't get to all of them.
and i really want to help.
because so many people helped us
this past year and a half.
(i remember the pioneer woman herself
posted a kind link to my blog
on hers when we were getting the news out about
my sister's situation.)
i've been thinking about how i could
help spread the word about so many different causes
with the limited time i have
and here is my idea
(the best idea i've come up with so far
although, i am going to keep thinking)
how about we take the day and post
-in my comments section-
any event,
blog
or project
that could use
general help,
money,
donations of time,
well-wishing and prayers
or
just public knowledge.
and those of us reading
can pledge to pick one cause
(or two, or more
if you are generous)
to help out
in a way we can.
what do you think?
let's start right now:
feather in your nest
is an online store
for home-inspired
wares and gifts
created by gina drennon.
two weeks ago
gina's husband michael (39 years old)
unexpectedly passed away
leaving gina and her two boys
obviously heart broken
and in need of help.
gina has decided to close her online shop
to look for a more stable job.
friends are asking to make the public aware
that all items on feather in your nest
are 25% off
the more amount of inventory she can liquidate
the better it will be
for her and her family.
if you'd like to
help out gina and her family
by shopping at her store
you can go here.
best wishes gina.
what else can we help with?

I saw this on another blog and bought a lovely handmade apron from there called "Dance With Me". Wonderful name right? The apron arrived yesterday and is absolutely lovely. When I slipped it on I felt connected to the woman who was enduring such a personal tragedy, and thought what a beautiful thing it was that we can all reach out to one another through this blog world. I highly recommended any of the aprons...I'm ready now for another cjane apron week!
Hey cjane,
Here is the website of a darling wee girl I know called Aria. You can read her story, and donate your money or your prayers. Thanks.

I have friends whose babies are somewhere in Haiti. The orphanage where they lived has been destroyed.

Gina's family should contact the Liz Logelin Foundation: http://thelizlogelinfoundation.org/
Liz died during childbirth, leaving her husband Matt to care for their baby (who is now an adorable 1-year-old.) Matt has set up a foundation to helped other widowed parents.
My prayers and love are headed toward Gina.
Being newer to the blogging community, I don't know of any blogs to suggest here. However, i do have a thought--for those of us who aren't sure of what blog to recommend here, we should all post a link on our posts today for Feather in Your Nest. I am going to do that right now...It never hurst to spread the word.

dear cjane,
I'm on the board for Southern Cross Humanitarian - we feed, educate (and a lot more) impoverished children in Peru, Ecuador and Columbia. We desparately need child sponsors (100% of sponsorship money goes to the care of the children). Attached is a link to our blog - there's a story about the Bueno Palacios family, a poor family with 7 kids who we're trying to help.

What a great idea!! This should become a monthly feature :)
I'm currently donating 100% of the proceeds from my PDF pattern sales to Haiti Relief. The patterns are great for beginners or experienced sewers and are inexpensive. Every dollar counts!!

The family of Garth Abbott, a former singles ward bishop in Las Vegas, is holding an online auction to help raise money to cover the cost of his treatment for a rare form of breast cancer, for which he has no insurance. Bishop Abbott is one of the great men I've known in my life and every little bit helps.
Go to http://thedailyabbott.blogspot.com for the auctions and more information.
I was wondering if there are any other online auctions that I could donate to (I looked at the Abbott auction, and the auction itself is already closed though they could still certainly use monetary donations, I'm sure). We're students with not much money, but I'm also an online seller and I can always donate some of my handmade goods to causes like that....anyone know of anymore online auctions like that?
Our family has been supporting Care for Aids, based in Kenya. A wonderful ministry transforming lives... that was started two years ago by college students.. their heart for the people in Kenya is amazing.

Great idea CJane!
My friend Lacy's beautiful daughter Taylie was diagnosed with AML (luekemia) 6 months ago. She has been through multiple rounds of Chemo, with more too go and she is only 4 years old. They have pretty much lived at Primary Childrens, and they are from Richmond, making them very far away from home with medical bills I can't imagine.
Go to www.tayliebug.com to read her story and click the donate button to donate.
Then hugs your kids and be thankful they are healthy!
What a great idea!
I volunteer for an animal rescue/sanctuary based in Puerto Rico. We are continually striving to improve the animal welfare there as well as rescue the beloved satos. We are in a current crisis mode of our own. With both vehicles broken down and no incoming donations it is harder and harder to keep up with our mission. However we cannot turn a blind eye on the animals in need.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to spread the word.

Oh, CJane, thank you so much for doing this. I am trying to spread the word about an organization called Lespwa Worldwide. Some friends of mine, right out of college, raised $20,000 and opened an orphanage in Haiti. They need all the help they can get right now, obviously! Please visit www.lespwaworldwide.com, http://jayanddiana.weebly.com, or http://jershurk.weebly.com to read about these amazing young people. And again, to anyone willing to help them out - THANK YOU!!

I think this is FANTASTIC!!!!! Love your idea. You are right, you really can only do so much. I think this should be a FRIDAY thing, you could call it "finding help fridays" Then we know where we can go to look for those who need help and where we can go if someone we know needs it!
Susan Powell is a missing mom of 2 from West Valley Utah. There is a blog set up with all the current information. PLEASE stop by!!! Thanks so much.

Because of the economy many brides are having a hard time planning their weddings and really making those dollars stretch. This was brought more to my attention as I helped my sister plan her wedding. So I am giving away TWO FREE wedding photography packages. Visit http://greenorchidphoto.com for more details.

Vote for Camp Kesem!
www.clickforkesem.org
Camp Kesem is a national nonprofit organization based out of university campuses all over the US. We set up week-long summer camps for kids whose parents have cancer. These kids are tough cookies with a lot of adversity but camp gives them a safe place full of people who actually understand what they are going through and helps link families dealing with cancer. BYU hosts the only Camp Kesem in the intermountain west and has only been around since 2007. Kids come from Idaho, Colorado and all over Utah to attend.
Please, vote for Camp Kesem in the Chase Community Giving donation sweepstakes. It is free for you to vote and will bring us that much closer to getting $1million for our national camps. January 22, TODAY, is the last day to vote!

LDS Humanitarian Services is sending supplies to Haiti, and they've asked for donations of full-size quilts.
Kalli is hosting a quilting EXTRAVAGANZA at the American Fork stake center (140 W. Center Street) on Monday from 10 - 12.
PLEASE come join us there, and we will all pretend that we know how to do things like tie quilts and do - something or other - with batting. Check out her postfor details.
Also, for any interested Utah bloggers, a ginormous group of us are going to be getting together on a monthly basis to meet, eat, make friends and work on some kind of (PAINLESS! TOTALLY PAINLESS!) service project. ANYONE is welcome. Kids too. Details here.
Thanks CJane :)

Cjane, thank you so much for using this blog to spread the servive. I appreciate for your concern for each of us.
Everyone, let's just remember to provide the correct information when you do fundraising.
I remember Nienie's fundraising website stated that their insurance only covers $1 million max, but actually it did not have a lifetime limit. I'm glad that Nienie is using the money gratefully, but I don't think people want confusion later.
Just a thought :)
Sincerely,
Sasha W.
I love you CJane!
My friend and I have followed your blog since NieNie's plane crash, and we love you both.
My friend's baby has Spinal Muscular Atrophy. SMA is a neuromuscular, degenerative, terminal disease. There is no cure and no current treatment.
The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation is raising money for this disease, and this organization has been selected into the Chase Community Giving Campaign. They could recieve a million dollars if they win. They just need your votes on Facebook. If you have time please log on and vote.

Thanks for your vote, and CJane thanks for being YOU!!!
There are so many wonderful organizations in the world that need help. My wish is that every single person or family would adopt "their" cause and donate in someway, whether in money or time or auction item or auction participation, so that they can continue on to do the work they do.
In our family we support the American Cancer Society because my husband has a nasty form of colon cancer and has been on chemo for several years now. We're very active in the community Walk for Life and take pride in walking the survivor's walk, and I've even spoken at the walk.
We also support The Gwendolyn Strom Foundation (gwendolynstrongfoundation.com)which fights for a cure for SMA, the #1 genetic killer of babies under 2 years--1 in 40 is a carrier of the this disease and your baby could be born with it yet most people have never even heard of it. This one is small and a wonderful example of a grassroots organization.
We also adopt a child or 3 or 6, through World Vision.
We also would like to begin tithing at church, when we find a church that will take us, and hope to see that money going to some good in addition to administration.
Cjane, this is a wonderful way for people to get their cause out there. Thank you.
Your heart is so in the right place.

My husband came home from work recently and told me how his boss's niece, Hayley age 10, tripped and fell while on family vacation. At the hospital xrays showed that her femur was broken. Soon after, she was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.
In December, Hayley's leg was amputated in an attempt to stop the cancer from spreading further. Although doctors are hoping the amputation has stopped the cancer from spreading, she has months of treatment ahead of her.
One of the most horrifying facts of this story outside of Hayley's plight is that the family's insurance company refuses to pay for a prosthetic leg, having deemed it "cosmetic" and therefore not essential. The leg alone will cost upwards of $100,000, not to mention the handicapped accessible van, home modifications, etc.
Haley has been a trooper throughout this ordeal; you can read her story at her website and make a donation if possible. If nothing else, please spread the word.

I don't know if this is the place but I need help.Probably this would fall in the general knowledge category. I found out that I am a full mutation of the Fragile X Syndrome gene. This means I have fragile x sort of. My mental abilities are find but I have everything else. I do lead a pretty normal life except I feel weird all the time and have moments of anxiety etc and weird thoughts. I sometimes worry ablut how the toilet paper feels being shoved in the cupboard etc. This is hard to explain. My doctors are really helping much. They really don't seem to know what to do. I need to know what type of blood tests I should have to see what I am lacking and what I really should be eating. Maybe there are foods that are causing this etc. Any ideas or resources would help a lot. My email is kmort10@hotmail.com. Thank you everybody.
My name's Jenni and I'm 26. This is my dad, who died two years ago February 5th from complications from Multiple Sclerosis. Aside from remembering him and missing him every day, I participate in the MS Walk each year. All funds go to the MS Society to help those currently battling MS. I had 24 years with my dad. I raise funds in hopes that others can have 24 + 24 + 24 + 24 with their loved ones. On a final note, my dad was one cool guy:

I just found out today that a mother of five children who attends my childrens' school passed away and today was the funeral. She had breast cancer. I do not know them. I can't pick out the children in a crowd but it awoke something inside of me telling me that I needed to do something for this family. I am in the very beginning stages of finding out what they need, but if someone would like to donate or even just has ideas of what I could do as a complete stranger, I would SO appreciate it, and I know that they will too. Email me at jmhfechter @ gmail (dot)com
Thanks for the opportunity...

My sister attends the University of Iowa, and annually the university holds the University of Iowa Dance Marathon. This is a year round student-run organization that works to generate funds and raise awareness for University of Iowa's Children's Hospital, specifically the pediatric oncology unit.
It culminates with the 24-hour BIG Event which honors children's fight against cancer and celebrates life. During the 24 hours, the participants do not sit, have caffeine, or sleep all in honor of children battling pediatric cancer.
Following is a link to her site. Any donations would be much appreciated.
